The government shouldn’t control consumption of food, however it should have some influence on production like it already does. There should be a regulation on how animals are treated within butcher farms, dairy farms, etc. Most of the animals aren’t even killed in a fair way. They are killed slowly instead of quickly. Calves are confined to small fenced in areas in order to make their meat more tender. This isn’t fair at all. Baby cows should be free to run around. It should be enough that they are being killed for their meat. I feel that there should be a government standard that allows calves to be free-range for at least part of their life. Yes, it makes sense that these farms are working to make a product people will buy, but it’s also life. While the circle of life is very important, the amount of meat consumption is ridiculous. By killing such an unnatural number of animals, it’s almost as if humans are playing some sort of god. It’s disgusting. The government probably should regulate meat consumption, but that is getting way too invasive into Americans lives. The government should regulate the amount of hormones companies are allowed to supply to chickens. The amount of hormones allows a chick to become a chicken in 2-3 months instead of 6. EW. The way cows in dairy farms are also mistreated. Probably the worst part is that they have to live with it. Cows are kept in confined places and truly spend most of their time being milked while their udders are sore. If that were done to a human… a lot of people would care.
Bottom line: animals need rights within American culture because it’s ridiculously disgusting how much they are taken advantage of.
